LAS CANICAS

This is a very popular game in Spain usually played by children with their friends in the street. All we need is “canicas” (marbles), which were sold in kiosks or news-stands.

We need a dig a hole with about 10cm in diameter and 7-8cm deep, and draw a line away from the hole. The line will mark the spot from which the player will propel once at a time each of their marbles with their fingers, trying to send the marbles right into the hole. The person who first achieves to put the marble in the hole will start the game; if not, the closest one to the hole will start. Then, we measure two hand palms and a half from the hole to start throwing. Each player will try to get closer to the hole by hitting the other player’s marbles.

Another version of the game:

It is necessary a drawn circle on the ground with 1 or 1.5m in diameter within which the marbles are placed. From an established distance every player will take turns to propel their marbles hitting the other players’ out of the circle. Any marble within the circle cannot be taken by any player.
