This is a game of Chinese origin that became popular in Madrid in the 30’s and 40’s, being one of the few games that required a toy in particular: a diabolo.

Although this game was also practiced in groups, there being small competitions, it can be played individually. All we need is a diabolo, a juggling prop consisting of an axle and two cups or discs, and a rope. The object is spun using a string attached to two hand sticks. Typically, the user pulls the stick in his or her dominant hand so that the string moves along the axle, turning it. By doing this repeatedly and rapidly the diabolo rotates faster. The diabolo spin will be accelerated more quickly and it will be thrown into the air, being caught with the string to repeat the same process over and over again. The winner will be the one who keeps the diabolo spinning for the longest time.
